Scanning a QR Code and making payment is presently the easiest method at shops. Using the method described here, payments can be accepted to current accounts from customers using any BHIM UPI app.
There are presently a number of BHIM UPI apps, the most popular being PhonePe, GooglePay, AxisPay and PayTM. One can use any of these apps irrespective of where he holds his bank account.
Why can't I use any of these BHIM UPI apps to configure my current account?
It is very easy to add a savings bank account to any of the BHIM UPI app if your mobile number is linked to the bank account. You can immediately start sending and receiving payments after adding. Similarly a current account also can be added if the bank permits it, and if it is an individual current account or a current account of a proprietor. But, current accounts of Partnership Firms, Private / Public limited companies, Trusts, Societies, etc., cannot be added to BHIM UPI app. And for such accounts you cannot directly accept payments from customers who use BHIM UPI.
What is the benefit of using this method?
- Simple & easy.
- Start accepting payments to your current account straight away.
- No need of any configuration at merchant.
- No approval / verification / authentication.
- No third-party involved.
- No charges.

Prepare the URL to generate the QR Code in the above syntax. Replace the account number and IFSC with that of your current account in which you wish to receive payments. The payee name can be your trade name, which will be displayed to the customer when he scans the QR Code. Spaces anywhere shall be replaced with %20. The entire URL shall be in a single line and there shall not be any line-feeds.
Step 2
If you wish to generate a dynamic QR Code unique for each transaction, you can include additional parameters in the URL. For example, you can include the parameter "am" for transaction amount. The amount will be pre-filled when the user scans the QR Code.

Step 3
Use any offline or online QR code generators and paste the above URL there to generate a QR Code which can be downloaded as an image or a vector. I had used qr-code-generator & qrcode-monkey and they have vector download option.
You can use any editors to put your logo or size to your needs. This can be placed on your counter or printed on visiting cards or on invoices. The customer can scan this code using any of the BHIM UPI apps and make a payment immediately.
Caution : Before making your QR Code public, test it by scanning and transferring a small amount to your account by yourselves.
